The Boston Red Sox Sign a Multi-Year Contract Extension With Tickets.com

April 30, 2009 · Filed Under Baseball, Sports News · Comment

Agreement to include ProVenueMobile(TM) ticketing and Primary Ticket Auctions

Tickets.com, a leading global provider of integrated ticketing solutions, announced that it has signed a multi-year contract extension with Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox. With the regular season underway, the seven-time World Series Champions head into 2009 with enhanced ticketing functionality for their fans and their organization. The renewal encompasses Tickets.com products including ProVenueMobile(TM), Tickets@Phone(R), Primary Ticket Auctions, and Automated Kiosks.

“We’re proud of our company’s long association with the Red Sox,” said Larry Witherspoon, chief executive officer, Tickets.com. “I’m pleased that we have the opportunity to serve the club with website mobilization and other upgrades this year. Our goal is to help the franchise score wins in brand differentiation, fanbase expansion, and customer service so that they can concentrate all their efforts on playing a successful season.”

The Red Sox will go live with ProVenueMobile this season, making them the third MLB franchise on the Tickets.com client roster to implement the product after the Oakland A’s and Milwaukee Brewers. ProVenueMobile enables full-circle, branded ticket transactions to be made 24/7 from any mobile phone model directly through the client’s mobilized website. To further maximize the potential of ProVenueMobile, the Boston Red Sox will simultaneously adopt the proprietary Tickets@Phone technology from Tickets.com into its suite of ticketing solutions. Tickets@Phone functionality allows customers to digitally receive unique bar-coded tickets on their mobile phone for a 100% mobile, secure, paperless–and green–ticket buying experience.

Other consumer friendly additions to the Boston Red Sox ticketing service agreement include enhanced functionality through Tickets.com technology via Automated Kiosks and Primary Ticket Auctions for select games. Both features increase the avenues through which patrons can acquire tickets. Automated Kiosks provide a convenient, easy way to get tickets without waiting in long box office lines; Auctions can serve as a fair means to acquire premium seats to key sold-out games. Other MLB teams employing Primary Auctions include the A’s, the Cubs, the Giants and the Tigers.

“Extending our relationship with Tickets.com gives me total confidence that we will be providing state-of-the-art functionality for our fans,” said Mike Dee, chief operating officer, Boston Red Sox. “With technology like ProVenueMobile, game attendees will have more options and ease of use than ever before.”

First 100 people to book get passes to All-Star Jam Session, Rookie Challenge

Fans who want to experience the weeklong festival of events that surround the 2009 NBA All-Star Game can find great deals on last-minute accommodations if they know where to look.

The Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau has created a one-stop reservation Web page, www.visitphoenix.com/allstar, where select hotels and resorts have posted special rates and packages for All-Star week (Feb. 12-16). Rates are as low as $169, and the first 100 people to book a room at one of the featured hotels will receive two tickets to the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam on Feb. 13 and two passes to the NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by Adidas.

“If you’re looking for prime hotel rates in Greater Phoenix for the NBA’s marquee event, this Web site is where you’ll find them,” said Doug MacKenzie, spokesperson for the Greater Phoenix CVB.

MacKenzie added that this NBA All-Star week promises to be more fan-friendly than ever.

“The enormity of new Phoenix Convention Center makes All-Star festivities really accessible this year,” he said. “This is a wonderful chance for fans and families to immerse themselves in the All-Star scene and see current and past NBA stars.”

The convention center is the site of All-Star Jam Session, the fan experience the NBA bills as the “world’s largest interactive basketball theme park.” Jam Session features more than 10 acres of interactive games and displays, and its Center Court will showcase the McDonald’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Feb. 13 and All-Star team practice sessions on Feb. 14. Tickets to Jam Session are $20 for adults and $12 for children ages 3-12.

US Airways Center, home of the Phoenix Suns, will play host to Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, All-Star Saturday Night and the 58th All-Star Game itself. All-Star Saturday Night consists of the Shooting Stars competition, PlayStation Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout and Sprite Slam Dunk competition.

Sunday’s star-studded game will tip off at 6 p.m. MST.

Both US Airways Center and the Phoenix Convention Center are located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, on the city’s new METRO Light Rail line.

“Besides getting to see NBA stars and attend events like Jam Session, fans can expect sunny skies and 75-degree temperatures,” MacKenzie said. “This is simply a fabulous time to be in Phoenix.”

Australian Open Quarterfinalist Jelena Dokic Accepts Qualifying Wildcard for 2009 Cellular South Cup

Professional Women’s Tennis Tournament to Be Played February 13-21, 2009 at The Racquet Club of Memphis

The Cellular South Cup announced today that former world #4 player Jelena Dokic (AUS), winner of five career singles titles and a quarterfinalist at last month’s Australian Open, has accepted a singles qualifying wildcard in the 2009 Cellular South Cup qualifying event. Dokic will be working her way through the qualifying round in hopes of competing for the Memphis title and a share of more than $200,000 in prize money.

The tournament, which is scheduled February 13-21 at The Racquet Club of Memphis, will also feature one of the game’s all-time greats, Pete Sampras, in a charity singles exhibition match versus two time Grand Slam winner Lleyton Hewitt on Monday night, February 16 at 6:30 p.m., to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Dokic is a huge talent and a fierce competitor, and we are pleased that she will be competing for the opportunity to join an already strong field,” said Jim Richmond, director of Corporate Communications for Cellular South. “We are proud of our partnership with this tournament and the caliber of players that will compete for the Memphis title.”

Dokic has been ranked as high as #4 in the Sony Ericsson WTA singles rankings before injuries and off-the-court issues caused her to miss much of the 2006 and 2007 seasons. She is experiencing a career resurgence, as seen in her run to the 2009 Australian Open quarterfinals.

“Jelena had such an impressive run in Melbourne, and we are so excited that she is coming to Memphis to build on that success,” said Cellular South Cup tournament director Peter Lebedevs. “She is really hitting her stride again as a player, and I expect her to have a strong showing in Memphis.”

As previously announced, the 2009 Cellular South Cup will be headlined by two women currently ranked among the Top 15 singles players in the world. Caroline Wozniacki (DEN), #13 in the Sony Ericsson WTA rankings and the first Danish woman to ever win a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title, will be making her fourth appearance in Memphis. Joining her will be Victoria Azarenka (BLR), currently ranked #15 after kicking off the 2009 season by winning the Brisbane International, her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title.

Throughout its history, the Cellular South Cup has hosted some of the biggest names in women’s tennis. Recent tournament winners include two-time defending champion Lindsay Davenport (USA – 2008 and 1997), three-time champion Venus Williams (USA – 1998, 1999 and 2007), Vera Zvonareva (RUS – 2005 and 2004) and Monica Seles (USA – 2002 and 2003).

The Cellular South Cup will be played February 13-21 at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Additional information about the tournaments can be found at www.cellularsouthcup.com. Ticket packages and group tickets to the 2009 Cellular South Cup are on sale now through www.Tickemaster.com, by calling (901) 765-4401 or via email at ticketsales@racquetclubofmemphis.com. Order tickets today to ensure the best available seating.
