Documentary on Art of the Olympians to Premiere Oct. 29 with Host Peggy Fleming

The Art of the Olympians began as a dream of Olympic gold medalist Al Oerter. He spent the last two years of his life organizing Art of the Olympians by collecting artwork in various mediums from Olympic athletes, lobbied for a permanent location in Fort Myers and worked in partnership with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), which ultimately lead to an agreement for the Art of the Olympians to display the U.S. Olympic rings at the facility.

His untimely death in 2007 would mean that Oerter, a four-time Olympic champion in the discus throw, would not see his dream come true … but it did.

On Friday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Harborside Event Center in Fort Myers, Main Sail Video Productions with Art of the Olympians is hosting an Evening with Peggy Fleming in honor of the world premiere of the documentary, “Art of the Olympians.” The 30-minute film, by Emmy Award winning Photographer/Director Ilene Safron, documents the dreams of Oerter in his mission of uniting the sports and art world to uphold the virtues of excellence above winning. UEFA Champions League: Partizan vs. Arsenal match preview

September 28, 2010 · Filed Under Soccer, Sports News · Comment

FK Partizan failed to win any of their home games when they were last in the UEFA Champions League group stage with Arsenal FC in the first visitors to Belgrade this time round in Group H.

• The teams’ campaigns started in contrasting fashion, Partizan slipping to a 1-0 defeat at FC Shakhtar Donetsk while Arsenal were at their scintillating best in a 6-0 win against SC Braga.

Previous meetings
• While the teams have not met in European competition before, Partizan have lost their last two home games against visitors from England. They went down 1-0 to Newcastle United FC in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round in 2003/04, although they subsequently won by the same score at St James’ Park and prevailed on penalties to reach the group stage.
• They also lost 3-1 at home to Leeds United FC in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup first round, Partizan coach Aleksandar Stanojević playing in both games, the away leg ending 1-0 to the Yorkshire club.
• Before that their record was three wins out of three, including two notable results. They beat Manchester United FC 2-0 in the 1965/66 semi-final first leg, a 1-0 loss in the return not enough to prevent them reaching what remains their sole European final, where they lost 2-1 to Real Madrid CF in Brussels. In the 1984/85 UEFA Cup second round against Queens Park Rangers FC, the Belgrade team lost the first leg 6-2 away but remarkably won the return 4-0 to progress on away goals.
• Arsenal have only ventured to Serbia once before for an official fixture. Losing 1-0 away to FK Crvena Zvezda in the 1978/79 UEFA Cup third round, they were eliminated after a 1-1 draw at home. Read more

Mobley Wins Round 9 of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup in Mexico

Five Drivers Within 25 Points Heading into Tomorrow’s Finale

After yesterday’s qualifying session at Autodromo Internacional Miguel E. Abed in Amozoc, Mexico, pole winner JD Mobley said that he knew he had to give it everything he had and leave it all out on the track.  The Castle Rock, CO native did just that today as he led Round 9 wire-to-wire to claim his first career Jetta TDI Cup victory.  Mobley arrived in Mexico in fifth place in the Championship point standings and was 44 points behind leader Jarvis Gennari.  After today’s commanding win, Mobley has trimmed Gennari’s lead to just ten points (after today’s event, Gennari retains the lead in the Championship with 293 points).  Mobley will be starting on pole tomorrow as well, which definitely will put even more pressure on Gennari.

“Today just couldn’t have gone any smoother,” said Mobley after the race.  ”I knew I needed to be perfect this weekend and so far I’m accomplishing what I need to.  Not only did I earn my first career Jetta TDI Cup victory this afternoon, but I also closed the gap in the standings to ten points.  I couldn’t ask for a better scenario heading into tomorrow’s race – I led wire-to-wire today and I’m starting on the pole.  I’m just going to go out there, stay patient and hopefully I will be able to clinch the title.” Read more

American Heroes Challenge Scheduled Nov. 6-7 in Las Vegas

Second annual competition for law enforcement, military teams benefiting Las Vegas Veterans Memorial

The American Heroes Challenge announces its second annual two-day multi-stage firearms and tactics competition will take place Nov. 6-7 at the Clark County Shooting Park, 11357 North Decatur Blvd. in Las Vegas.

The event is open to the public and presented by American Shooters, a veteran-owned Las Vegas business and Nevada’s largest, state-of-the-art firearms store and shooting range. All proceeds will go toward raising at least $1 million for the construction of a world-class veterans memorial in Las Vegas, the only major metropolitan city without such a memorial.

American Heroes Challenge was designed to test the technical, tactical and physical capabilities of the nation’s armed forces and first responders from across the country.

During the two-day competition, teams of five consisting of military, first responder and law enforcement professionals will use innovative problem-solving methods, teamwork, and their special skill to complete tasks in scenarios designed to push the limits of their abilities and determine which team is the best of the best. Participants will compete in events encompassing low-light operations, manual breeching, building searches, injured operator rescue and rapid deployment skills.

The Clark County Shooting Park opened last December and has received a five-star rating from the National Shooting Sports Foundation Association of Shooting Ranges. The park will offer American Heroes Challenge participants and attendees increased spectator viewing of the entire event and diversity in range types, allowing for complex stages of competition.

The American Heroes Challenge is a charitable organization created to pay tribute to military, law enforcement and first responders. Its goal is to provide a long-term ongoing charitable vehicle to fund projects benefiting and honoring those who give selflessly to making the country and communities a safer place. The Las Vegas Veterans Memorial is the debut project.

“The American Heroes Challenge is a means to honor those who go beyond the call of duty on a daily basis, and I am proud to have the opportunity to give back to a community that puts the needs of others before themselves,” said Michael Millett, president of American Shooters and director of American Heroes Challenge.
